In Memory And In Celebration

Donations in memory and in celebration of a loved one is a wonderful way of making a tribute to someone close to you, while helping others who are effected by a cause which is close to your heart.

You could set up a tribute fund, arrange donations at a funeral in lieu of flowers, set up a Just Giving Tribute page or purchase a leaf on our Tree of Life – to remember someone close to you, mark the birth of a new baby or simply celebrate an occasion whilst making a gift to Southend Hospital Charity.

Make a donation

We keep a record of all the donations received in memory of loved ones, whether sent directly to us or via a funeral director.  All donations received are acknowledged either to the family or the individual donor.  Read more about how to make a donation.

Donations at a funeral

We can provide you with donation envelopes for family and friends to make donations at the funeral, and you may like to request that a donation is made in lieu of flowers.  People can also gift-aid their donation by completing the relevant section on the donation envelope. Please call us on 01702 385337 or email fundraising@southend.nhs.uk. You can also speak to your funeral director who will have experience of how to collect donations in lieu of flowers.

Southend Hospital Charity is well known to many funeral directors in the area and they will look after all cash and cheques given by family and friends at the funeral and send these to us.  An acknowledgement will then be sent to the family to confirm how much was collected.

Alternatively you can use the attached donation form.  Please contact us if you would like additional donation forms for family and friends.

Tribute funds

We know that for many people, Tribute Funds are a very special way to give thanks for the life of a loved one. Tribute Funds are a positive and simple way for friends and family to remember a loved one and, in their name, help support the vital work of our hospital.

It is quick and easy to set up a Fund, and family and friends can contribute by making donations and holding fundraising events to honour the memory of your loved one.  Simply email fundraising@southend.nhs.uk and we will contact you when your fund has been created.

Create a web page in memory (Just Giving)

Whether you have chosen to set up a Tribute Fund or raise money directly for the ward or department fund, you may wish to create a web page in memory of your loved one.  Other friends and family can donate to this page, adding messages and shared memories.

You can do this by visiting www.justgiving.com/southendhospital.  The money raised through the page comes directly to Southend Hospital Charity and we will attribute the funds to the ward/department fund or tribute fund you have specified.

The Tree of life

Our beautiful hand-painted Tree of Life is located outside the PALS office on the ground floor of the Prittlewell Wing and can be seen by all visitors and supporters.  It offers family and friends the opportunity to remember the life of someone close to them, mark the birth of a new baby or simply celebrate an occasion whilst making a gift to Southend Hospital Charity.

A leaf can be added to the Tree of Life for a donation and will be engraved with the name of a loved one or with a personalised message. This leaf is then added to the tree, remaining there for a minimum of three years, before being sent to you to keep as a treasured memento. If there is space available on the tree then it may be possible for your leaf to remain for longer.

 Available to buy for
Gold Leaf£250
Silver Leaf £150

Note.Your donation will go towards the general purpose fund, where a small percentage will cover the tree's administration cost and the rest of your donation will support areas of the hospital where it is most needed.
